Wife
I met my wife in El Medano by accident. I was supposed to be doing a clinic with Kauli but he pulled out at the last minute. I didn’t know where to go, but I knew I didn’t want to go back to Barcelona, so I just went to get the boat to Tenerife anyway. I looked at my watch and thought I’m not going to make it in time. I got there really late and they were already closing the doors. It was like a sliding door moment! The guy working made a quick decision and told me to drive on-board anyway. Now because of that guy I have a wife and 2 kids. If I hadn’t made it, I would have turned around and gone back to Barcelona and never ever gone to Tenerife. During that trip I got a call from my friend, telling me to come down and have a coffee and that’s when I met my wife and fell in love. And now after 8 years, we have 2 kids and a wonderful relationship. She has helped me a lot throughout my career; I am blessed to have her as my wife, that’s for sure!
Maui Ocean Academy
If I could go back to any point in my life it would be when I was 14/15 in Maui at School at the Ocean Academy. It was incredible. It was the first time I met a girl, the first time I tried alcohol; I did so many things for the first time there. They were looking after us, but it was a real life experience. They would drop us off at Ho’okipa and we would just sail. I think it made me become older than I was. And it’s Maui, one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
