THE RECORD RUN
I was scared at the beginning when I saw the wind at the start of the course and on the turn when you slingshot down the main stretch. Once I was used to it I was fine until the wind blew very strong. The day I did the 53 knots was amazing because the wind was howling, it was like flying! On many runs I went down the course and I could not even see the edges. It was like driving in a car in the fog. I could hardly see because of all the spray. It was unbelievable. You have to ask Patrik and Bjorn because it is so hard to explain how intense it was. It was apocalyptic! I don’t remember how many runs I did over the three days but I think I went 17 times over my old record! There were a lot of 53 knot runs!
THE SPECIAL ONE
I think in 2012 Bjorn had won and the year after we were fighting and I won in Sylt. Many times I had the title wrapped up earlier in the season but this year it went down to the wire against Bjorn. It is not the same when you win the title before the last event. This went down to the last race. It brings out your character when you have to fight until the finish and deal with the pressure. I have a lot of respect for Bjorn and I miss that rivalry. I like his kind of mentality when competing. Now there are a lot of young guys who don’t have so much respect. Some guys have it and race fair but there are plenty who don’t show the respect. It is like this! In all sports it is more or less the same but I know that every time I was fighting with Bjorn he was racing fair and there was a lot of respect between us. We fought like any other rivals and that is never friendly but you can be unfriendly and have respect!
