TIMO MULLEN
I think what makes for a classic trip is a crew with the right attitude and an open mind to what we will or won’t score. I get so many people asking me when I am going on my next trip but when you do invite them they want to know an A-Z of what the conditions will be like, will it be windy, where will we sleep and every other minute detail of the trip. The trips I enjoy the most are the ones where anything could happen, yeah we have a rough idea on the forecast but that is never 100%, especially in Ireland, so we take what we are given and anything else is a bonus, you need to have a like-minded crew with you to make all that work. I think most windsurfers have a natural explorer trait in them. The UK and Ireland have huge stretches of coastline so I think that has always helped make the search more tempting in that there is literally so many awesome spots to discover, particularly in Ireland and Scotland.
For me any trip to Ireland is an easy one, my family all live in Ireland, so I go back home on pretty much every forecast, but this forecast was giving plenty of sunshine which is sometimes something we are not worried about but for JC to be persuaded it helps! Also the Autumn season had been pretty rubbish so we knew it being an El Nina year, the Atlantic was not going to throw too many more bones like this our way!
