You have been an active member on the PWA Board for a few years now, why did you feel the need to get involved?
I have no idea! I think in the beginning I was representing the new generation. Pretty much everyone was foreign and struggled to get their voice heard. Speaking English is a huge advantage so I volunteered to stand up for them really.
Now I am one of the oldest on the tour, but I really still see my role as trying to support the underdog a bit. In my experience if the top guys want something they have a lot of power to make it happen, so I always try to make sure that the others don’t get screwed. I don’t know if it’s always really the best for the sport, but I always try my best to do what I think is right.
It’s actually been very interesting over the years to work with some of the biggest names in the industry. Craig Gertenbach from Fanatic, Martin Brandner from JP and Svein Rasmussen from Starboard are all on the management board and their combined knowledge of windsurfing is immense. I guess also it’s an insight into how politics works in general, and has opened my eyes to many things!
