2013 has already kicked off with the first mission of the Red Bull Storm Chase, do you anticipate this being a cool year for wave sailing?
I think it could be a really good year for wavesailing. Robby Swift is working really hard towards organising an event in Chile. If this goes ahead it could be huge for wavesailing in many ways and I think it could be the spark that ignites something special. We will see.
You’ve always supported the U.K. tour and been prepared to stake your reputation on the line, I thought you would be back this year to regain the title but you missed the first 2 events?
I really wanted to do the full tour this year and go for the title again, but unfortunately the dates were at the same time as the RRD importer meeting that had to take priority unfortunately.
I really enjoy the U.K. tour. We have a very high level and I’m not afraid to put it on the line as you say. The last few years it hasn’t really come together for me for whatever reason, but last year I won in Ireland and was in a good position for the title again. Unfortunately the last events were too close to Nayra’s due date and I didn’t want to miss that for anything. Being stuck in Tiree and missing my daughter’s birth would’ve been horrible!
We generally get good conditions at some really nice spots that always offer a mix of all sorts of sailing. Again the problem is just time. Balancing the design work, PWA competition, Wave Camps, importer meetings and now family life to, doesn’t leave that much time.
Fingers crossed though I can fit it into the schedule, make it to the last 2 events and hopefully win them. Then the goal will be to take the title back in 2014!
Thanks John
