So I guess your other family is RRD, what part do you have to play in the company?
RRD is definitely a family. Roberto invites everyone out to South Africa to live with him and his wife and kids. It’s a great atmosphere. My role in the company seems to be growing all the time.
4 years ago when I joined on the sails too there was a small part of my job dedicated to testing and development. That has now turned into full design and development of the complete windsurf rigs program and I’m loving it.
On top of that I’m doing quite a lot to help out the team like organising photo-shoots and trying to keep everything flowing with the team riders. I’m really enjoying it all and it’s nice to feel it’s leading towards a career for the future.
We heard you have been over to China a few times, any interesting experiences over there?
I went twice last year and to be honest the most interesting thing was actually how normal it was. A week before I left we were watching that “idiot abroad” program where he was eating snakes eyes and lambs testicles. I was terrified and was trying to pile as much food in as possible beforehand thinking I would not be eating for a week.
However in the end the food was amazing. The people drive around in the same cars, talking on the same phones, and wearing the same clothes. I guess the biggest difference is just how big it is and how many people live there.
I was driving with [Simmer designer] Tomas Persson and he was talking about the population numbers, and would explain that this random town we are driving through is 4 times bigger than London, and it leads straight into another town that is even bigger.
