How have you learned the ropes about sail design and where do you find your inspiration?
It’s been a very steep learning curve for sure. It all started 4 years ago, initially just testing and then passing on the feedback for the design changes. Then 2 years ago I started to work on the design files myself, with Tomas Persson on hand all the time for advice. It was basically like an apprenticeship.
In the beginning I was asking him how to change this, or how to change that, but that soon became simply reassurance that I was going in the right direction and finally I was doing the whole thing myself.
I have a good background for this sort of thing, studying sail theory amongst other things at university and also working with a number of sail designers in the past. Plus I think sailing everyday is such a good help. I really understand the sails and know exactly what I want to change.
This year I’ve started to work with team riders too and that opens up a whole new thing of trying to understand what they want and then making it right for them. The freestyle sail is amazing now after working with Jacopo Testa and it’s good to go sailing with him, watch him and understand what he wants and needs.
